"...Influenced
in part by E.J. Bellocq's (1873-1949) photographs of prostitutes
in New Orleans' Storyville, the Hamilton's images are shot from a low
camera angle in order to give the model an empowered position --
looking down on the viewer. This is a position counter to the
perspective that male artists have used for centuries. Further
the use of masks surrounding a model's eyes does not allow the viewer
to possess her identity; nor is the model afraid to stare directly back
at the camera lens. Here the Hamilton's have fashioned a new
female image cloaked in historical and cultural perspectives...."
