This
project
grew out
of a mutual interest in images from the Victorian era, along with
literature produced by female authors about women who were strong and
independent and
with a mind of their own rebelled against what men and society expected
of
them.
During this time period, not only
were
women
bound
and restricted both mentally and emotionally, but physically as
well. In the series It Doesn’t
Fit Anymore, the articles of
clothing represent the
restrictions that were placed on women. A
strong woman with a sense of self, struggles to remove the bonds that
of
which constrains her. The pieces in this
exhibit
started
as black & white images that have been torn, layered, fragmented
and
colored with acrylic and oil paints to create a sense of history.
